Notes from the counter

Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle+: what changed?

Amazon has renamed Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+. Amazon's explainer, updated on 22 October 2026, gives the US price as $11.99 a month plus taxes, and says you can borrow up to 20 ebooks, audiobooks or comics at a time with no due dates, with companion audiobooks on thousands of ebooks. Prime still does not include it. The Kindle app's App Store listing still uses the old name.

What did Amazon announce?

Amazon's page "Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle+: Everything you need to know" was updated on 22 October 2026 "to reflect that Kindle Unlimited has been renamed Kindle+". The service itself is described in the same terms as before: a monthly subscription with access to millions of ebooks and thousands of audiobooks, comics, manga and magazines.

What does Kindle+ cost and include?

  • Price: $11.99 a month plus taxes in the US.
  • Borrowing: up to 20 digital books, audiobooks or comics at a time, returned whenever you like.
  • Audio: thousands of ebooks include companion audiobooks, so you can switch between reading and listening at no additional cost. Look for the headphone icon next to the Kindle+ logo.
  • Devices: any Kindle device, or the free Kindle app on iOS, Android, Mac, PC and the web.
  • Prime: not included. Prime members get a free book each month through Amazon First Reads and access to a curated selection of the Kindle+ catalog.
  • Cancelling: your subscription runs to the next billing date, then you lose access to Kindle+ titles; Amazon says there is no refund of fees paid.

Is anything different for existing subscribers?

On the pages we read, the change is the name. Amazon's page does not describe a new price or a new borrowing limit for existing members. If you subscribe, check your own Amazon account for the price you pay, because promotional prices and taxes vary.

One practical note: the Kindle app's App Store description we read on 30 October 2026 still talks about Kindle Unlimited members. Expect to see both names for a while in apps, emails and help pages.

Should you keep paying for Kindle+?

Keep it if you read at least two or three included books a month; at $11.99, that is $6 or less a book. Drop it if you mostly read new releases that are not in the catalog, or if your library's Libby collection covers what you want for free. We compare it with the other reading subscriptions in Everand vs Kindle+ and list every plan in our reading app price index.

If you like switching between reading and listening, companion audiobooks are the strongest reason to stay. See how to read and listen at the same time.

What should you check in your Amazon account?

  • The price you pay. Amazon's page gives $11.99 a month plus taxes for the US; your own plan may differ if you joined on an offer.
  • Your renewal date. If you cancel, access runs to the next billing date and then ends.
  • Your borrowed titles. The limit is 20 at a time, so return finished books to make room.
  • The badge. Look for the Kindle+ badge in the Kindle Store, and the headphone icon for titles with narration.
