Does Magic Bookmark work with audiobooks now?

Yes. Magic Bookmark, the iPhone reading companion from Yomu Inc., added audiobook support in October 2026. The release notes for version 1.1 (21 October) and the current version 1.1.1 (27 October) read: "Now with audiobook support: get spoiler-free recaps for any book format." You enter the last phrase you heard, and the recap, cast list and answers stop at that point in the story. It still covers supported titles only, on iPhone, with the first book free and then $1.40 to $4.99 per book.
How does it work with an audiobook?
For print and ebooks, Magic Bookmark finds your place from a photo of the page or the page number. For an audiobook, the App Store listing says you enter the last phrase you heard. It then syncs to that exact place, not just the chapter, and everything it shows you stops there: a recap, a cast list built from what you have heard so far, answers to questions about the story so far, and chat with characters who only know the story up to your point.
It works alongside your own copy and does not contain the book. The website calls this BYOB: bring, buy or borrow your own book, whether hardcover, paperback, audiobook, ebook or library loan.
Why does an audiobook recap matter?
Audio is the hardest format to rewind. Scrubbing back through hours to find what you missed is slow, and chapter titles in audiobook players say little about who did what. A recap that stops where you stopped is the quickest way back in after a break, or after drifting during a commute.
Until now, the main page-locked recap was Kindle's Story So Far, which only works inside Kindle ebooks in the US. Magic Bookmark's audiobook support covers listeners on any audiobook app, for the titles it supports.
What else changed recently?
- Version 1.0.10 (19 October 2026): a new flow for wrapping up a finished book and moving on to your next read, plus bug fixes.
- Versions 1.0.7 to 1.0.9 (September and early October 2026): release notes introduce chat with characters about the story so far, with recaps and character guides matched to your exact place.
- Version 1.0.1 (20 August 2026): the first release in the US App Store's version history.
What are the limits?
- Supported titles only. The catalog launched with romance, fantasy, romantasy, YA, sci-fi and historical fiction titles popular on BookTok and Bookstagram, and you can request a title in the app.
- iPhone only. iOS 16.4 or later. The website says Android is on the roadmap.
- Pay per book. First credit free, then $4.99 for 1, $19.99 for 5, $34.99 for 10 or $69.99 for 50. One credit covers one whole book, credits never expire, and there is no subscription.
- English only, age rating 13+. Rated 4.8 from 25 ratings on the US App Store (3 November 2026), a small number.
- Privacy. The App Store privacy label lists identifiers as data used to track you.
How does it compare with Kindle's Story So Far?
They solve the same problem in different places. Kindle's Story So Far gives a spoiler-free recap up to where you stopped, but only inside Kindle ebooks bought or borrowed through Amazon, in the US. Magic Bookmark works with a print copy, an audiobook or any ebook, but only for its supported titles and only on iPhone.
Cost differs too: Story So Far comes with eligible Kindle books at no separate charge, while Magic Bookmark is pay per book after the first free credit. Our get back into a book page covers both, plus a no-app method.
